Japan Trip Cost Breakdown: 9 Days in Osaka & Kyoto 2026

How much does 9 days in Japan really cost? This is in the month of July (summer) Here's the full breakdown from my Osaka + Kyoto trip, plus the exact itinerary I followed.
General Expenses (No Activities)

I came home with ¥1,200 left (about ₱465) — just enough for one last snack at the airport. Exchange rate used throughout: ¥10,000 ≈ ₱3,875.80.
The Itinerary
Day 1 (July 23) — Arrival in Osaka
Settled into the hotel, ¥190 transfer from Nankai to Honmachi. Arrived around 7 PM at Garner Hotel Osaka Honmachi (¥2,889/night x 3 nights). Grabbed dinner at a nearby konbini and rested.
Day 2 (July 24)
Looked around for a Ricoh IV / Seiko at nearby camera shops, then Yodobashi and Bic Camera in Namba. Ended the day at teamLab Botanical Garden Osaka, 7:45 PM.
Day 3 (July 25) — Tenjin Matsuri
Slow morning, withdrew cash at 7-Eleven. Late lunch at Dotonbori around 1 PM — takoyaki, of course. Caught Tenjin Matsuri: the land procession at 3 PM and fireworks over the Okawa River from 6–9 PM.
Day 4 (July 26) — Osaka to Kyoto
Packed up and checked out before 11 AM, ¥600 for transport to Kyoto. Checked into Prince Smart Inn. Visited Kyoto Aquarium when there was time (coffee and cake after, ¥2,105) and did some shopping at Don Quijote.
Day 5 (July 27)
Chopstick-making at 11 AM — ¥2,000 for engraving, ¥10,000 for knives. Stopped at a nearby café/mochi spot (~¥1,000). Visited Yasaka Pagoda, free entry.
Day 6 (July 28)
Tea Ceremony & Matcha Making at 12 PM, with yukata rental on-site. Spent the rest of the day at Arashiyama Bamboo Grove, Togetsukyo Bridge, Nonomiya Shrine, and the Kimono Forest at Randen Station — all free. Dinner came out to ¥770.
Day 7 (July 29)
Kyoto Imperial Palace, then a hoji-cha specialty store. Did some department store shopping and got the 5% discount plus tax refund.
Day 8 (July 30) — Ohara Day
Left at 9 AM, reached Sanzen-in by 1 PM. Spent the rest of the day on last-minute shopping and free time.
Day 9 (July 31) — Departure
Rokujuan from 8–9 AM, ¥2,000 for a tea set. Checked out before 11 AM and headed to the airport for a 6:30 PM flight.
